The Royal Artillery Association was established on 26 May 1920 by the RA War Commemoration Fund to create a ‘Gunner Friend’ network organisation in every part of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth; in essence to create and foster a bond of comradeship irrespective of rank, between all who are serving or who have ever served as artillerymen and to maintain and promote the proud traditions of ‘Ubique’. It was also designed to watch and help those in need or distress and maintain contact with old comrades. It raises its money from annual and life subscriptions and after running costs funds are used to further the aims of the Association.

Our Branch, The Lewes Branch Royal Artillery Association is based in Lewes, the County Town of East Sussex and was formed on 5 April 1993 - see our Formation Certificate here. We currently have 47 members ranging in age from 50 to their 90's and are represented across different ranks from Gunners to WO's.

Our members have served all over the world from as far away as Belize, Singapore, Hong Kong, Cyprus, Canada, the Middle East and Germany, with some having seen active service in Northern Ireland, Aden, Iraq, The Balkans and Afghanistan.

Some members have also served in other Regiments, such as The Royal Engineers, The Parachute Regiment, The Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers and The Royal Signals as well as other Arms such as The Royal Navy and The Royal Air Force.

In total, our members have over 400 years of service between them.

We meet on the last Friday (sometimes the second to last Friday) of every month at our home, St. Mary's Supporters Club in Lewes. We also have an Annual Dinner in May and a Christmas Dinner to which we invite Guests of Honour and Guests from other Associations and Organisations. We also attend The Lewes Combined Services Dinner each December.
